Melissa Demers

In 2000, Melissa founded the West Carleton School of Performing Arts, where she continues to serve as the owner, artistic director, head instructor, and camp director.

Melissa’s passion for dance and movement is reflected in her extensive experience. She excelled in RAD ballet examinations, competed nationally in sport aerobics, and performed as a dancer for the Ottawa Renegades. She has also choreographed and performed in numerous productions with Kanata Theatre and Rural Roots Theatre Company.

As a performer, choreographer, and instructor, Melissa has earned multiple awards, but her greatest achievements lie in the meaningful connections she has built with her students. She is dedicated to fostering confidence, creativity, and a love for movement in every dancer she teaches.

Beyond the studio, Melissa is deeply engaged in fitness, holding certifications in group fitness, individual conditioning, kickboxing, spinning, fitness consulting, and personal training. She studied Kinesiology at the University of Ottawa and continuously expands her expertise through advanced coaching courses and NCCP training.

Committed to promoting healthy living, self-expression, and personal growth, Melissa strives to create an environment where students feel empowered, connected, and inspired through movement and the arts.

Gord Macdonald

Gord’s journey began in Woodlawn, where he grew up immersed in sports, constantly challenging his athletic abilities and forging strong bonds with teammates. His love for competition and teamwork shaped his early years, setting the stage for a remarkable athletic career.

A standout athlete, Gord was named High School Athlete of the Year three times. He earned MVP honours in soccer, rugby, and wrestling (OFSAA), while also receiving Most Improved Player awards in basketball and volleyball. When he wasn’t competing in these sports, Gord was achieving top-ten finishes in track & field, cross country, and badminton showcasing his versatility and dedication.

While Gord thrived in multiple sports, soccer was where he truly excelled. Starting in Fitzroy, he advanced through competitive levels in Kanata, Eastern Ontario, and the Provincial team from ages 12 to 17. His talent led him to Carleton University, where he played for five years on a nationally ranked team while earning a law degree. During his tenure, Gord competed in five National Championships, solidifying his legacy as a top-tier athlete.

Gord’s passion for soccer extended beyond playing. At just 15, he began coaching, and by 18, he had founded his own development school. Over the years, he has coached with the Ottawa Fury, Eastern Ontario, West Carleton (as Technical Director), and West Ottawa (full-time).

Currently, he serves as an assistant coach at Carleton University. Gord also brings extensive multisport camp experience, having worked with Carleton University’s camps, his own illskill Athletics program, and West Ottawa SC. With over 15,000 hours dedicated to mentoring young athletes, Gord successfully turned his passion into a fulfilling career.

This summer, you’ll find Gord at WCSOPA camps as a director, leading sports activities at the Choose Your Own Adventure Camp, or maintaining the grounds—always staying connected to the sports and community he loves.
